Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swamy Temple – Tirumala

In Tirumala, the temple of Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swamy can be found directly across the street from the temple dedicated to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. After the temples dedicated to Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy and Lord Sri Venakteswara Swamy, this ancient temple is given priority status. After the daily naivedyam that is offered to these deities, it is brought to this temple so that it can be kept here.

According to legend, Sri Rama and Hanuman had their first encounter at this location. According to a different legend, Hanuman’s mother put him in fetters when she realised how mischievous he was being. Pilgrims pray to Anjaneya Swamy so that they can have swamy’s darshan as an integral part of their prayer. That, too, He is Aradhya Daivam for those who adhere to the Dwaita school of thought, whereas Visishtadvaitas call him periyattiruvadi, and Outtarahulu refer to him as Paurushavatara Murthy.

Story of Bedi Anjaneya Swamy

It is said that when the young Hanuman wanted to leave the Tirumala hills in search of a camel, his mother, Anjana Devi, tied both of his hands with a “bedi” (cuffs) and ordered him to stay right at the place until she returned. This was to prevent him from leaving. Even now, Lord Hanuman can be observed standing in front of Mahadwaaram, as he had previously agreed to do. Anjana Devi remained in the area close to Akasa Ganga, and she never came back to visit this location again.

In accordance with the traditions of Vaishnavism, either Anjaneya or Garuda is installed in the spot directly across from the primary temple. Garuda is a devotee of Sri Maha Vishnu, while Sri Anjaneya is a follower of Sri Rama. In light of this, Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswamy can be seen standing in the opposite direction of the temple in Tirumala.

It is believed that the Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swamy temple was built during the rule of Mahant and that it was constructed in accordance with the traditions of the Vaishnavite religion.

Every Sunday at the Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swamy temple, a special abhishekam and pooja are performed in honour of the deity. At the Sri Bedi Anjaneya swamy Temple, the festival of Hanuman Jayanthi is also observed.
