Where to Store Your Mobile Phone in Tirumala, Lockers and Cloak Rooms

Mobile phones, cameras and electronic gadgets are not permitted inside the Tirumala temple queue lines or the sanctum. TTD operates approximately 126 digital e-Swipe lockers at major guest houses for secure phone storage, plus 90 bank-type lockers at the GNC (General Pilgrim Complex). Cloak rooms with footwear and small-item deposit are at all temple entry gates. Storage is free for pilgrims with confirmed darshan or accommodation; tokens are issued at deposit, reclaim with the original token.

Where the lockers are

Digital e-Swipe lockers (126 total), Distributed across TTD guest houses on the hill:

  • Padmavathi Rest House
  • Vaikuntham Rest House
  • Sannidhi block
  • MBC complex
  • HVOC blocks
  • Other major rest houses

e-Swipe means: swipe your room key or Aadhaar at the locker to open; phone goes in; locker locks automatically; reclaim with the same swipe. No lock-and-key, no risk of lost tokens.

Bank-type lockers (90 total), Located at the GNC (General Pilgrim Complex). These are traditional physical lockers with key handover at the counter. Useful for pilgrims who don’t have TTD accommodation on the hill and want a longer-duration phone storage.

Cloak rooms at queue entries, Located at:

  • Vaikuntam Queue Complex (VQC) entry
  • Supadam Q gate (for Special Entry / Arjitha Seva / VIP Break)
  • Main Mahadwaram entry
  • Tirumala bus stand drop-off area

Cloak rooms accept small items: phones, watches, wallets, footwear, small bags. Large suitcases are not accepted at the cloak rooms near the temple, those go to the GNC lockers or your accommodation block.

What you can store

  • Mobile phones (powered off recommended)
  • Cameras and camcorders
  • Smart watches
  • Tablets
  • Bluetooth earphones
  • Power banks
  • Wallets and small bags
  • Footwear (footwear deposit is separate but co-located)

What’s not accepted

  • Cash above small amounts, TTD does not insure cash; use the GNC bank locker for cash above Rs. 5,000
  • Heavy jewellery, keep on person or use the GNC bank-type lockers
  • Large suitcases, keep at your accommodation block; small lockers can’t fit them
  • Perishable items, food, water bottles (often not allowed in queue anyway)

How to deposit and reclaim

For e-Swipe lockers (digital):

  1. Reach the locker bank at your guest house or near the queue entry
  2. Swipe your TTD room key (if you have accommodation) or your Aadhaar card at the touchpoint
  3. The system assigns you a locker; the door opens automatically
  4. Place phone and other small items inside, close the door
  5. To reclaim, swipe the same card; the system opens your assigned locker

For cloak rooms (token-based):

  1. Hand over the phone and small items at the counter
  2. Receive a numbered token slip
  3. To reclaim after darshan, present the token at the same counter
  4. Items returned in the original deposited condition

Cost

Free for pilgrims with valid temple-visit purpose (darshan ticket, SSD token, or accommodation receipt). TTD does not charge for phone or footwear deposit at any of these facilities, this is a public service. Anyone asking for payment for “private locker” services near the temple is not TTD; verify only at the marked official deposit points.

How long can you store?

  • Cloak rooms near the queue, typically same-day reclaim, up to 12 hours
  • e-Swipe digital lockers at guest houses, for the duration of your accommodation stay (up to 24 hours per accommodation slot)
  • GNC bank-type lockers, up to 24 hours; renewable

What happens to forgotten phones

Phones and watches left behind by pilgrims (in cloak rooms or in the temple queue area inadvertently) are collected by TTD and, after a holding period, auctioned through e-auction. TTD periodically announces these auctions, proceeds go to TTD’s charitable trusts. If you forget a phone, contact the TTD lost-and-found counter at the CRO within 30 days; recovery is possible if your phone is identified before auction.

Practical tips

  • Power your phone off before depositing, saves battery and reduces accidental usage
  • Memorise your phone passcode, don’t leave it written down with the phone
  • If carrying expensive items (camera, jewellery), use the GNC bank-type lockers rather than the cloak rooms
  • Take a photo of your locker number / token number with another camera or note it down separately
  • Allow 15 minutes for reclaim on the way out, queues at popular cloak rooms can be slow

Common questions

Can I take my phone into the queue? No. Mobile phones are not allowed in the Vaikuntam Queue Complex compartments or the Supadam line. Strict enforcement at the queue entry security check.

What about smart watches? Same rule, smart watches with cameras or screens are not allowed. Deposit at the cloak room.

Are headphones / wired earphones allowed? Usually permitted (no camera, no screen), but verify at security. To avoid the issue, deposit at the cloak room.
