Sarva Darshan at Tirumala, Slotted Tokens, Aadhaar Requirement, and Bhudevi Complex
Sarva Darshan is TTD’s free darshan category, open to all pilgrims regardless of income or status. Since 2022, TTD has overlaid a time-slotted system on Sarva Darshan, Slotted Sarva Darshan (SSD) tokens issued at counters in Tirupati. Aadhaar verification is mandatory at the SSD counter, with biometric capture required. The main issuing counter is the Bhudevi Complex beside the Alipiri Bus Stand, which issues approximately 8,000 to 10,000 tokens per day, operating from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The difference: open queue vs SSD slot
- Open Sarva Darshan, walk into the Vaikuntam Queue Complex compartments at Tirumala; no time slot, no Aadhaar required, total dwell 6 to 26 hours depending on day
- Slotted Sarva Darshan (SSD), get a free token in Tirupati with a specific entry time slot, climb up to Tirumala for that slot, and enter the queue line at the allotted hour. Total dwell after token: typically 2 to 6 hours
SSD is dramatically faster for most pilgrims. If you have flexibility on day of week (book mid-week if possible) and can wait for the right token slot, SSD is the better free option than the open queue.
Where to get an SSD token in Tirupati
- Bhudevi Complex (primary), beside the Alipiri Bus Stand at the foot of the Seshachalam hills. 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Also issues Divya Darshan tokens for the Alipiri footpath route.
- Vishnu Nivasam, TTD pilgrim complex near the railway station. SSD counter inside the complex; particularly useful if you’re already staying at Vishnu Nivasam.
- Srinivasam Complex, opposite the APSRTC bus stand. SSD counter inside the complex.
TTD has set up additional SSD counter expansions to 30 counters at peak times to handle the daily ~8,000-10,000 token quota.
What you need at the counter
- Aadhaar card, mandatory for every adult. Biometric (fingerprint or iris) capture is required at the counter.
- Phone with active SIM, the registered mobile number receives the token slot SMS
- Children below 12, accompany an adult; can be added to the adult’s token. Aadhaar for the child is not always required, but a school ID or birth certificate helps
- Group bookings, up to five Aadhaar holders per single token application
The biometric capture is the key check that prevents resale of tokens. The thumb print or iris scan is tied to the Aadhaar number; the holder must physically be present at the temple at the allotted slot.
How the slot works at Tirumala
- Receive your SSD token in Tirupati with a printed slot time (e.g., “3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, May 30”).
- Travel up to Tirumala (free TTD shuttle from Bhudevi or paid APSRTC ghat-road bus).
- Reach the Vaikuntam Queue Complex (VQC) entry gate at or just before the allotted slot.
- Show the token and Aadhaar; biometric reverification at the gate.
- Enter the SSD line; total queue dwell typically 2 to 6 hours.
Critical rule: TTD does not admit SSD token holders outside the allotted slot. Early arrival is sent back; late arrival forfeits the token. Plan the climb up with a 2-3 hour buffer.
Free amenities at Bhudevi Complex
- Clean drinking water
- Washrooms with no charge
- Luggage deposit counter (free)
- Small free meal hall run by TTD
You can spend a few hours at Bhudevi Complex while waiting for the bus to Tirumala, without needing to find restaurants or paid lockers.
Open queue (non-SSD) Sarva Darshan
Pilgrims who don’t want an SSD token can still walk directly into the open Sarva Darshan queue at the Vaikuntam Queue Complex on Tirumala. No Aadhaar required, no slot, but expect 6 to 26 hours of queue time depending on the day. TTD provides free meals (annaprasadam), water, and basic facilities inside the compartments.
Most pilgrims today choose SSD if they can plan ahead. The open queue is a reasonable fallback if you arrive at Tirumala without a token and the Bhudevi Complex is closed.
Dress code
Same traditional dress code as all TTD darshan categories:
- Men, dhoti, pyjama, or kurta. No shorts, no skin-tight clothing.
- Women, saree, half-saree, or chudidar with dupatta covering the chest.
Common questions
Is the SSD token actually free? Yes. TTD does not charge for SSD tokens. Anyone asking for payment to issue a “guaranteed slot” is a fraud.
Can I get an SSD token without Aadhaar? No. Aadhaar is mandatory because of the biometric verification. Non-Aadhaar pilgrims (foreigners, certain NRIs) should use the open Sarva Darshan queue or the Rs. 300 Special Entry Darshan with passport ID.
What’s the slot release time at Bhudevi Complex? Counters open at 5:00 AM. The first batches of tokens are typically for same-day afternoon slots. By mid-morning, tokens are being issued for next-day morning slots. The “available slots” board at the counter shows current availability.
Can I transfer my SSD token to someone else? No. Aadhaar biometric tying means the registered holder must be the one entering the temple.
What if I miss my slot? The token is forfeit. Get a new token at Bhudevi Complex if returning the next day, or join the open Sarva Darshan queue.
